LOYALTY AWARDEE

In the highlands of Pom e Grande, there lived a happy and contented family which Abraham came from. Abe is the only son of Fredricksen Wilkins and Jane Stuart. Their life was simple. Mr. Fredricksen was a shoe factory worker in the Barrio next to theirs while Mrs. Wilkins is a plain housewife, giving all of her time to their family. Abe is ten years old, playful, cheerful and a treasure of his parents.

One evening on Mr. Fredricksen’s way home, he notices some noise and locate where it came from. His ears bring him to the bushes. He slowly made an opening to see who makes that panting noise. And he is surprise on what he saw.

“Abe will you please give me the sliced onions. It’s on the table, dear.” Jane instructed. She is preparing the dinner while Abe is playing his favourite Ironman action figure. “Here’s your onions mother, special delivery!” Abe replied. “Thank you! Are you still playing with Ironman? It’s seven in the evening and Papa will be home sooner, get ready for dinner okay?” Jane added.

Abe hears knockings on their door and he opened it. “Father! You came home late again huh?” Abe said as he tightly embraces his father. “I have something for you Abe” Mr. Fredricksen making him curious. “Really Papa! What is it? What is it?” Abe responded merrily. The one that Mr. Fredricksen saw in the bushes is his present for Abe, a puppy. Abe likes the puppy so much but Mrs. Wilkins is not that into animals. They had that unforgettable dinner for Abe with their new family member, Bakita.

Everyday, Abe and Bakita went outside for a walk. They play Catch-the-stick but Bakita seems a type of a not so playful dog. He doesn’t run to get the stick and give it back to Abe instead Abe is the one doing it trying to instruct Bakita to do the same. Abe’s favourite bonding with Bakita is bath time and it looks that both of them likes it. They also spend time practicing for tricks that Bakita can understand yet he seldom does.

When Abe reached the secondary level, his school is in the next Barrio but the opposite way of Mr. Wilkins workplace. One afternoon, on Abe’s way home he saw a dog that looks like Bakita sitting under the tree on the hill. When he got closer and closer it appears that it is really Bakita waiting for Abe. “Hey Buddy! What are you doing up there? Did you wait for me huh? Oh, come on get down here and let’s go home!” Abe shouted. “He’s up there about fifteen minutes ago, looking straight at that building seems like waiting for someone” a man interrupted. The building that the vendor pointed is the school of Abe. “Is he your dog?” he added. “Oh, Mr. Delton, yes he’s my dog sir.” Abe responded shortly. “Then it’s you he’s been waiting eh? What a clever dog.” he ended.

Every afternoon, Bakita waits for Abe at the same place and time. Sometimes when Abe has allowance left after school, he treated Bakita a hotdog from Mr. Delton’s Snack-Time stand.

Years passed like minutes, Abe finished high school and started to work with his father at the factory and later married to a beautiful woman named Mary Stuart. They bought a house near Abe’s parents’ house and lived a simple life. Mary stays at home while Abe goes out for work. Abe sooner became a father and they named their child Flynn Cornelia. Bakita is also getting old but he’s still living with them. Mary also likes Bakita anyway.

It is eight in the evening, when Bakita is sleeping under the bed wherein Mary put baby Flynn to sleep. While Mary is cooking their dinner, she found out that there is something missing on her dish and she decided to buy at the next door’s mini shop. When she finished cooking the dinner, something startles her. From their table she can see the opening of the room where their baby is sleeping and when she looked down, she saw blood flowing on the floor. She rushed to the room and shouted. Abe, who just came from work heard Mary’s voice two blocks away and he run as fast as he could towards their house. He saw Mary in their room, she’s stoned for what she saw and so was Abe. Bakita is panting and his mouth is soaked in fresh blood. Mary runs to get baby Flynn while Abe come near to his Bakita. Beside the dog lies a dead snake almost a meter away from where Mary leaved Flynn. Abraham tried to bring Bakita to the Barrio’s so called doctor but it’s too late. The poison from the snake went through out his body.
