My FourSeasons Collection:

SWEET SCENT FALL TO SPRING
By: Cheen R. Gutierrez

From the stalk I saw a lil bud came out
Will it grow strong and beautiful? I doubt
Slowly this bud will turn into flower
Can tender hands hold it much longer?

Gardeners ensures each day you’re watered
That soil beneath you, from rocks they’d filtered
And you’re sunlighted enough to follow
The beauty of the world they want to show

Sooner pink petals started to appear
And tiny leaves painted green that’s so sheer
It grew taller and prettier day by day
A reason why bees are getting their way

EYES CALLED SUMMER SNOW
By: Cheen R. Gutierrez

The time when sun goes up! up in the sky
Suddenly you’ll feel that the winds blew dry
And yet you continue to dream that high
Thank goodness it wasn’t all for a lie

Go on! Here is the splash you shall enjoy
In case of sprain, don’t forget your life buoy
Now that you are a man and not a boy
Oh! Can you differ a girl from a toy?

When it happened and you know it is time
Don’t hesitate, say a word, stop the mime
Just think of words for your statement to rhyme
And why not give a glass of sweet-sour lime

AUTUMN BLOOMS
By: Cheen R. Gutierrez

Leaves from green to orange turned in colour
Gently they fall from the branch to the floor
Everyday seems they are giving you more
Oh, what a mess! An additional chore

With trials that you encountered in life
May these transform you as sharp as a knife
Beside you stands a woman you call wife
Supporting you always without a strife

Call it nature’s way, you bear fruits sooner
Would you feel like found a four-leaf clover?
Well, you should know how to take it over
Our time so fast they will ripe no later

THE WARMTH OF LAKE FLOWS IN WINTER
By: Cheen R. Gutierrez

Yes! Everywhere’s white and as cold as ice
Hardships are gone you’re now winning the prize
Day and night you prayed for them to be wise
Well here they are now, right before your eyes

At last! You have a life that is in peace
No more pain and discomfort, you’re at ease
Meekly close your eyes just like one’s first kiss
Hear sweet lullaby hum softly by your Miss

You are like heat waning under your feet
Enervated. Ah! Just lay on that sheet
Oftentimes they visit, near you they seat
Again I saw blooms that no one can beat

WHO’S HE?
By: Cheen R. Gutierrez

“A serious man” my impression to say
Working long and hard, a free time? No way
So I rejoiced when he asked to play
Then those thoughts begun to fade away

When I was young like three-feet high
A glimpse of pain blew up my mind
He was there, grabbed my hand and sighed
Saying, “Dear child, are you alright?”

Indeed from him I came from
From him, he and I came from
He might look oh not so old
And his heart is pure like gold

Long ago there is a great castle located at the coldest, deepest part of the ocean called Poten Sea. There lived a beautiful princess. She is a kind and responsible siren with a golden voice. Because of that, many sirens and sea creatures love and respect her so much. But she has nothing to do with our story. Our real story begins at the birth of our protagonist.

In the peaceful village of Khallocohan lived a married couple named Bella Duck and Edward Fallen. That night, the couple is celebrating the birth of their first child after Bella’s four days of pregnancy. The baby girl has hair that as black as charcoal, lips that as red as blood, skin that as cold as ice, and teeth that is sparkling as white as snow and so she was named Snow White. As she grows, her physical appearance brightens and reveals more that makes her so loved by the neighbourhood. When Snow White reached the age of seven a change occurs in their lives.

It is one sunny morning and Bella is about to go to the market to buy some groceries and stuff for Snow White’s seventh birthday when she opened the door and surprised to see a lovely homeless child crying in front of her. They adopted the child and raised her just like their very own Snow White without knowing that it is the biggest mistake they have done. Ester seems responsible and kind. She shows her gratitude to her foster parents but not to her stepsister. The real thing is that, Ester is a witch disguised as a child to deceive Bella and Edward. She want to revenge because Edward married Bella and not her. But later, she also became jealous of Snow White’s beauty and she thought of dispatching Snow White first before Bella to give Edward a horrible consequence of his decision.

“Abracadabra, banana potato na, tocali no potato ree, kani malomani kanogee, you pla nu boo la pa nu nu poo mah banana laka moop pitala moo panana ba ba!” and so with that witchcraft, Bella and Edward’s love and attention to Snow White vanished caused Snow to leave and wander into the woods.
Night came. Snow White, alone in the Enchanted Forest, began to cry bitterly. She thought she could feel terrible eyes spying on her, and she heard strange sounds and rustlings that made her heart thump. At last, overcome by tiredness, she fell asleep curled under a tree.

At last, dawn woke the forest to the song of the birds, and Snow White too, awoke. A whole world was stirring to life and the little girl was glad to see how silly her fears had been. However, the thick trees were like a wall round her, and as she tried to find out where she was, she came upon a path. She walked along it, hopefully. She walked till she came to a clearing. There stood a strange cottage, with a tiny door, tiny windows and a tiny chimney pot. Everything about the cottage was much tinier than it ought to be. Snow White looked around and discovered that it’s a village. She opened the door of a house that she slightly fits.

"l wonder who lives here?" she said to herself, peeping round the kitchen. "What tiny plates! And spoons! There must be seven of them, the table's laid for seven people." Upstairs was a bedroom with seven neat little beds. Going back to the kitchen, Snow White had an idea.

"I'll make them something to eat. When they come home, they'll be glad to find a meal ready. “Towards dusk, seven tiny blue creatures like three apple’s high marched homewards singing. But when they opened the door, to their surprise they found a bowl of hot steaming Berry Bloom soup on the table, and the whole house spick and span. Upstairs was Snow White, fast asleep on one of the beds. Upon seeing her, one prodded her gently.

"Who are you?" he asked. “Well Hello, my name is Snow White. I apologize for entering your house without permission. And you are?” she replied and asked. “I am Papa Smurf and they are my children” he answered. “Oh smurfs you say, I thought dwarves are living here. What are smurfs anyway?” she added. “Well you’re half right, dwarves used to lived her just before Lily Collins and her Enrique Gil look-a-like prince charming found and brought them back to the castle living an abundant life. With regards to our story, it’s too long to tell you doll. How did you find this place anyhow? ” Papa Smurf responded. Snow White told them her sad story, and tears sprang to the smurf’s eyes. Then Noisy Smurf said, as he noisily blew his nose:

"Stay here with us Snow!"

"Smurfy! Smurfy!" others cheered, dancing joyfully around the little girl. The smurfs said to Snow White:

"You can live here and tend to the house while we're down busy preparing for the Festival of the Blue Moon. Don't worry about your stepsister. We love you and we'll take care of you!" Snow White gratefully accepted their hospitality, and next morning the smurfs set off for rehearsal. But they warned Snow White not to open the door to strangers.

Meanwhile, Ester cast another spell making Bella suffer from a disease called “Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.” She also knows everything about Snow White and the Smurfs but she’s so tired to cast another spell to make Snow miserable and so she let Snow lived with Smurfs but her envy remains.
One afternoon in the Smurf Village, Snow was in the kitchen when she heard the sound at the door:

KNOCK! KNOCK!

"Who's there?" she called suspiciously, remembering the smurf’s advice.
"I'm a gypsy who sell Fuji apples for a living,” came the reply.
"I don't need any apples, thank you," she replied.
"But they are beautiful Fuji apples and ever so juicy!" said the velvety low-pitched voice from outside the door.
"I'm not supposed to open the door to anyone," said the little girl, who was reluctant to disobey her friends.
"Yeah right! Good girl! But I’m begging for your sympathy. I only have one Fuji apple left and I’ll be so happy if you buy it." Then the man went on.

Snow White planned to open the door just a tiny crack, give a penny and take the apple in return. And so she did open the door but upon seeing the man’s face and its physical appearance she felt sorry for him and let him inside. After interrogating him, the smurfs let him stay.

That ugly, hunchback, Fuji apple seller is a prince before he was cursed by a gypsy witch. He can tell anyone about the curse and the curse will remain forever. Only true loves kiss will free him. He fell in love with Snow White the first time he saw her.
Time goes by, Snow White and the hunchback became good friends. With his pure heart, sense of humour and other good traits, Snow knew that he’s a good man and they become secretly in love with each other.

Meanwhile, Papa Smurf with his talent in potion mixing came up to a vision that a witch named Ester wanted to kill Snow White’s father in a short period of time. Snow White together with the hunchback and the smurf’s went to Khallocohan except Scaredy Smurf, well you know as the name suggests. Then, they tied thousands of balloons in the smurf’s house, to be able to reach the village earlier than if they run.

Ester and Papa Smurf fought with their sorcery. Papa Smurf together with the help of the other smurf’s able to weaken Ester powers. They destroyed Ester but the hunchback was seen lying on the floor. “He saved me from Ester’s attack, Papa.” Clumsy Smurf said. Snow with tears on her face run towards him, “No! Wake up hunchback! Wake up! Or I’ll kiss you!” Snow did kiss the hunchback to say goodbye but without knowing what she did is broke the spell. The hunchback turned into a prince before he opened his eyes and kiss Snow.

Papa Smurf’s potions broke the spell of Ester to Bella and Edward. Snow and the Prince who revealed his name Mario Tatum soon got married. After the ceremony Pitch Smurf shouted, “Oh! This is happily ever after fellas!” and everyone grooves with the smurf’s sing and dance craze. Conductor Smurf started to wave his hands and the smurf's orchestra begin the uplifting and energizing song of …“Let’s do the rubadabango!”

"And that's the denouement of our story Smurfies!" Noisy Smurf ended.

The End

LOYALTY AWARDEE

In the highlands of Pom e Grande, there lived a happy and contented family which Abraham came from. Abe is the only son of Fredricksen Wilkins and Jane Stuart. Their life was simple. Mr. Fredricksen was a shoe factory worker in the Barrio next to theirs while Mrs. Wilkins is a plain housewife, giving all of her time to their family. Abe is ten years old, playful, cheerful and a treasure of his parents.

One evening on Mr. Fredricksen’s way home, he notices some noise and locate where it came from. His ears bring him to the bushes. He slowly made an opening to see who makes that panting noise. And he is surprise on what he saw.

“Abe will you please give me the sliced onions. It’s on the table, dear.” Jane instructed. She is preparing the dinner while Abe is playing his favourite Ironman action figure. “Here’s your onions mother, special delivery!” Abe replied. “Thank you! Are you still playing with Ironman? It’s seven in the evening and Papa will be home sooner, get ready for dinner okay?” Jane added.

Abe hears knockings on their door and he opened it. “Father! You came home late again huh?” Abe said as he tightly embraces his father. “I have something for you Abe” Mr. Fredricksen making him curious. “Really Papa! What is it? What is it?” Abe responded merrily. The one that Mr. Fredricksen saw in the bushes is his present for Abe, a puppy. Abe likes the puppy so much but Mrs. Wilkins is not that into animals. They had that unforgettable dinner for Abe with their new family member, Bakita.

Everyday, Abe and Bakita went outside for a walk. They play Catch-the-stick but Bakita seems a type of a not so playful dog. He doesn’t run to get the stick and give it back to Abe instead Abe is the one doing it trying to instruct Bakita to do the same. Abe’s favourite bonding with Bakita is bath time and it looks that both of them likes it. They also spend time practicing for tricks that Bakita can understand yet he seldom does.

When Abe reached the secondary level, his school is in the next Barrio but the opposite way of Mr. Wilkins workplace. One afternoon, on Abe’s way home he saw a dog that looks like Bakita sitting under the tree on the hill. When he got closer and closer it appears that it is really Bakita waiting for Abe. “Hey Buddy! What are you doing up there? Did you wait for me huh? Oh, come on get down here and let’s go home!” Abe shouted. “He’s up there about fifteen minutes ago, looking straight at that building seems like waiting for someone” a man interrupted. The building that the vendor pointed is the school of Abe. “Is he your dog?” he added. “Oh, Mr. Delton, yes he’s my dog sir.” Abe responded shortly. “Then it’s you he’s been waiting eh? What a clever dog.” he ended.

Every afternoon, Bakita waits for Abe at the same place and time. Sometimes when Abe has allowance left after school, he treated Bakita a hotdog from Mr. Delton’s Snack-Time stand.

Years passed like minutes, Abe finished high school and started to work with his father at the factory and later married to a beautiful woman named Mary Stuart. They bought a house near Abe’s parents’ house and lived a simple life. Mary stays at home while Abe goes out for work. Abe sooner became a father and they named their child Flynn Cornelia. Bakita is also getting old but he’s still living with them. Mary also likes Bakita anyway.

It is eight in the evening, when Bakita is sleeping under the bed wherein Mary put baby Flynn to sleep. While Mary is cooking their dinner, she found out that there is something missing on her dish and she decided to buy at the next door’s mini shop. When she finished cooking the dinner, something startles her. From their table she can see the opening of the room where their baby is sleeping and when she looked down, she saw blood flowing on the floor. She rushed to the room and shouted. Abe, who just came from work heard Mary’s voice two blocks away and he run as fast as he could towards their house. He saw Mary in their room, she’s stoned for what she saw and so was Abe. Bakita is panting and his mouth is soaked in fresh blood. Mary runs to get baby Flynn while Abe come near to his Bakita. Beside the dog lies a dead snake almost a meter away from where Mary leaved Flynn. Abraham tried to bring Bakita to the Barrio’s so called doctor but it’s too late. The poison from the snake went through out his body.

The Beauty in It

I can say that I’m now looking at the beauty of everything. That all things no matter how negative it seems was, it is on how we people looks for the beauty in it. Just like the seasons.

In spring, it is the dawn that is the most beautiful. Waiting to see the beauty as the light creeps over the hills, their outlines are dyed a faint red and wisp of purplish cloud trail over them. The sweet scent of nectar in the flower as it blooms. Everything is so lovely.

While in summer, it is the nights that fascinate me. Not only when the moon shines for the sky is clear and the clouds are wandering but also the dark nights that show the fireflies lit to and fro. While when it rains, frog ribbits will highlight the night.

In autumn what I love is the evenings. That mesmerizing moment when the glittering sun sinks close to the edge of the waters and the silhouette of the birds that flies in fours, then in threes, and in twos. It really makes me want to stop time to see every detail in it. When the sun has set, my heart beat together along by the sound of the wind and the hum of the insects.

And of course early mornings of winter captures me. It is beautiful indeed when snow has fallen during the night. It seems really romantic for me. A perfect picture when the ground is white with frost. But even there is no snow or frost, just simply the coldness and silence it brings was so wonderful.

Amazingly it’s Chocolates

It’s very irritating whenever I got a cough or a cold, and I bet that there are people like me who feel the same. When I got one, it lasted not just days but weeks and it’s not good for me. Maybe there are people who also taught by their parents or grandparents that during cough and cold days, sweets are totally banned.

Well, here's some news that might make you feel a bit better: Researchers in the U.K. found that chocolate may be a natural cough suppressant.

After looking at 300 patients that had chronic coughs, scientists at the Hull Cough Clinic discovered that 60 percent of them stopped hacking when they were given theobromine, a substance that's found in cocoa. These findings fit with a recent study performed by London's National Heart and Lung Institute, which showed that theobromine is actually a more effective than codeine, the common ingredient in cough medicine.

According to the study, patients were given 1,000 mg of theobromine, which equals about two ounces of unsweetened dark chocolate (or 16 ounces of milk chocolate).

There's no word on whether or not eating chocolate (and not just having theobromine) can preventively stave off a cough, but I'd like to think that having a hunk or two-you know, just in case – can't hurt.

Lost Community and Neighbourhood

It is the 14th day of December 2012 when a tragedy shocked the world. It is not unknown to us that 20 innocent children at a public elementary school in Connecticut suffered an injustice mass killing. In America, the tragedy has focused attention on the country’s lax gun laws. The gunman, Adam Lanza, was a 20-year-old reclusive man, who used three semiautomatic weapons, including an assault rifle, all licensed under his mother’s name. Before he went to the school that morning, he fired one of the guns at his mother while she was sleeping. Then he headed to Sandy Hook Elementary School which he had attended when he was a young boy. He killed every child in sight including six teachers from the school who had tried to cover the children. After which the gunman pointed the gun at his head and shot himself.

America is prepared to pass the necessary law that limits gun ownership and monitor the selling of the guns. But, it is always easier to propose solutions than to make sense on the larger context in which crimes of this kind occur. The investigators have found no meaningful leads that can somehow explain that action of the young gunman. Adam was a loner, he seldom left their house and not much is known about him. He shared a living with his divorced mother and older brother. He spent most of his time playing Internet games said the neighbours. As to what kind of games and what other things he did in cyberspace leaves no clue at all for he destroyed the hard disk of his computer. It is interesting how someone like Adam could connect to the anonymous players in the world while remaining physically isolated in the basement of their home.

It is a good time to reflect on the varied meanings that this unspeakable deed has summoned in every culture of all countries around the globe. Are we? The family itself which also known as the smallest unit of society effectively and responsibly doing our job? We have this job requiring us to supply primary connections in our very own families. It can be with our child, siblings, parents, and to our other relatives. It is because nowadays, children and also teens of my age were longing more for peer’s attention rather than to their parents or any other family member. Social Networking Sites like Facebook, Twitter, and a lot more if used wrongly can cause youth to be less productive in society because I know consuming hours in front of the computer feels like minutes. The problem reflects that there is the loss of community and neighbourhood.

One doesn’t have to live in America to prove this. We’ll find evidences if we observe. We Filipinos are known to have close-family-ties and famous with the saying “Blood is thicker than water”. But we also know that change is the only constant thing in this world. We may seem to cope well with our relatives, engage in long distance parenting yet we cannot help but to worry about the immeasurable emotional costs that the present generation of Filipino children may absorb.

NOT SO EARLY LiFE

(family, church and early school years)

Cheen Fernandez Rodriguez Gutierrez is my so far complete name. I was born on the 19th day of February at Amisola Hospital in Manila in year 1995. My beloved parents are Mr. Joselito Tayao Gutierrez and Mrs. Melany Fernandez Rodriguez. I am the elder child and I have one brother named Khein.

My father is a Sr. AutoCAD Operator and he’s working abroad and that makes us longing for him so much. My mother is a dedicated accountant working at Makati. Both of them are loving, caring, responsible, etc. and most of all God-centered parent. Me and my brother had 5 years gap and we’re opposite sex that’s why I think that it creates a thin wall between us. Our family is a CHURCH OF CHRIST member since when both of my grandparents were called inside this Church. Also, our family is engage in Church duties.

SCHOOL LiFE

I consider it an interesting part of my life. It’s really an adventure and I am delighted to impart more it with you.

I began to discover the wonders of learning with my superb guru no other than my adorable mother. In Manila, I finished my years in pre-school at Holy Angels Learning Centre. However, I wasn’t able to have my preparatory years because my teacher accelerated me to primary level. I was six years old when I entered Barrio Obrero Elementary School to take my primary years of learning but I only acquired there my Grade I to II years. We transferred in Imus, Cavite where I continued my studies at Buhay na Tubig Elementary School until I reached Grade V. Then, finally I completed my primary level and continue my 1st years in high school at Divine Jesus Learning Centre. I graduated as top four of the class in academic year 2006-2007.

We need to transfer in Caloocan then, so I studied at Lakandula High School for my 2nd year in HS, but it has some culture-shock effect on me. Those days really gave me a kind of traumatic experience. Well then, I didn’t make it up to the second grading and we moved again at my auntie’s house in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. By studying there, I was able to have my cousin as my classmate also and that was great. I’d done 3/4 of my second year high school life at Cornerstone Academy Inc. Right after the recognition day we finally went back at our house in Cavite. At General Emilio Aguinaldo National High School – Annex, I accomplished my 3rd and 4th years in HS. I consider my year stay at BNTES, DJLC, and GEANHS – Annex as my most treasured years in school so far.

More about Me

I really love our surnames for it all ends in –ez and it’s cute for me. If you’re getting curious about where on Earth my name came from, well it’s from Yu Mei Shin Co. – the first company that my father had worked at. My parents revised the word Shin and tada! They came up with Cheen. While I have that unusual name origin, my brother, as for me got more of it. His name came from Sugar CANE anyway. I admit that I’m a certified papa’s girl for a reason that papa affects me most or maybe because I really miss him a lot. I am a collector of school uniforms, agree?

My friends called me Chinchan or Chan which became my official nickname. I can say that I’m a boring person, a weird and a callow one trying to be more optimistic but I also welcome other descriptions that people thought of me. I love adventures like when we went in one of Panay’s unknown cave, and other outdoor activities with family and friends; food like my mom’s carbonara and any other pasta dish craves me, ice cream is really my comfort food; I also love songs and some of my favourite bands are: Silent Sanctuary, Secondhand Serenade, Faber Drive, New Found Glory, FM Static and others; and I love panda.

To add two suffixes in my name, CPA and MBA is one of my goals in life. I want to be successful in life to help my family. One of my favourite quotations is “Helping a man who isn’t helping himself is entirely worthless.” - Anonymous

LiFE NOW AND iN THE NEAR FUTURE…

My mom, brother, three cousins and I are now residing at Lot 680 C5C Sagana, Brgy. Culiat, Quezon City. We transferred to make school and church accessible but we had our own house in Imus, Cavite.

Currently I’m a 2nd year college student of New Era University taking Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. Reaching the most challenging level out of the three they say, the college years. Thanks God I made it till here. First and 1st semester of second year is over but the struggles continue. I experienced making tough adjustments like when I lived at the dormitory and a lot more.

The closer I am to have my dreams at hand the harder the things I must overcome. But with God’s help, I know I can make it through it all.
